So yes, how can I get publicity for my campaign?
There are lots of ways you can get publicity for your campaign. Start by contacting people and relevant charities and organisations via Facebook and Twitter, explaining what your campaign’s about and asking if they’ll give you a shout-out. Don’t be disheartened if they say no: someone will do it eventually.
Should I contact celebrities?
Yep, sure – particularly on Twitter. Obviously, celebs get lots of messages and requests online, so the chance of getting a response is quite low. BUT if you pick celebs that have a connection with the issue you’re campaigning about, you might just be surprised. Don’t ask too much though – maybe just a shout-out or a retweet.
Should I contact press people/bloggers etc?
Absolutely! Some support for your campaign in the press and on blogs can really push things onto the next level. Try writing a press release about your campaign – talking about why you’ve started it, what you’re planning and what you’ve achieved so far. And if you’ve got any famous supporters, make sure you mention them!
What is a publicity stunt?
A publicity stunt is an event designed to attract the maximum attention to your campaign. For example, last year one of our Battlefronters - Kaya, organised a flashmob at Westfield Shopping Centre, where everyone was wearing flimsy morphsuits with her campaign title on the front. Attracting attention is what it’s all about.
How do I plan one?
First you need to think about stunts that would be relevant to your campaign. Then use Facebook and Twitter to get as many people involved as possible. Then make sure you plan all the details of the stunt very carefully so it goes to plan on the day. Think big (but not ridiculous or dangerous!).
