How important is web stuff to campaigning?

Very! We’re living in a digital world, people. The Internet is bigger than JLS. Bazillions of people surf the web each and every day. To hit some of them bazillions with your campaign, you have to take it online. Getting the web and social media stuff right can be the difference between a successful campaign and a flop.

Does my campaign need to be on Facebook and Twitter?

Does a bear poo in the woods (the answer is yes, btw)? Facebook and Twitter are hugely important in terms of gaining supporters for your campaign, sharing campaign updates with the world, reaching out to influential people and celebrities and organising campaign events.

How do I get more fans/likers on Facebook?

Research shows that Facebookers like interesting and fun updates but don’t like their news-feed to be spammed. A couple of well worded eye-catching updates a day is a nice amount. 15 an hour is not. You should also post nice pics, polls and relevant discussions on your wall. And always reply to comments.

How do I gain more followers on Twitter?

Then make sure you’re using hashtags (these - #) when you’re entering Twitter discussions. Find relevant, influential tweeters and @ them with info about your campaign. Retweet interesting tweets that are relevant to your campaign. And be topical – tweet about daily news stories, TV shows etc.

How about making vids on Youtube?

Yep, definitely. That’s the way our Battlefronters roll and if it’s good enough for them… Making Youtube videos is a fun way to get your campaign out there in cyberspace. Just make sure your videos are short, snappy, watchable and interesting. And if you’re too shy – you don’t even have to be in it (innit)!
