Check out NUS' research and campaign work on this issue here; http://www.officeronline.co.uk/fe/articles/275736.aspx. NUS will be working on a new submission on the issue to the Low Pay Commission shortly, and be great to work in unison with this campaign

mate unless you get some thing like the size of the G20 protesters to join you nutting is gonna change this is the government if they don't like it they get rid of it they just want power thus they say all this really nice stuff you vote for them then say yar we are actually gonna do this :) so get with the program and if you don't like it then make your own country

Love the enthusiasm!

And who says I can't get anything the size of the G20? If Ghandi sat down one morning and said, ahh dang I wont be able to change the world then what would've happened to India? If Obama said America is too racist I will never win who would be the current President of the USA?

Yes it is going to be hard work, but even getting a few big companys on board with the idea is a great start! Already big companys like morrisons have said that the 18-21 rate should be scrapped and big trade unions like RMT, Unite, Unison, TUC are all agreeing with my campaign.

SO common, think positive! Negative comments won't help the cause

And on the note of making my own country, ahh too much politics to deal with on that note.

I dont agree with the idea of your campaign. If I did the same job as your dad, do you think we should be paid the same amount of money? The answer is no because he would be better at it. His life experience as well as his specialist knowledge of the job would far outstrip mine.

Additionally, if this were the case, and your campaign were to be successful, then it would deter many young people from applying to university as there would be no advantage to studying for an extra 3/4 years as people who had left at 16 would already be earning those wages.

Hi Dami,

I understand where you are coming from. But this campaign is not trying to change high level jobs, in any case I think you have missed the point.

Most minimum wage jobs do not require much skill or specialist knowledge.

I know people who are stacking shelves at Tesco's and being paid £3.57 and someone older then them doing THE SAME job is being paid nearly double their wage.

And in this circumstance it is wrong and completly unfair that there is a diffrent wage JUST because of AGE.

Not skill. If skills and experience is an issue then surely the person will be on more than minimum wage? And who's to say that a 16 year old can't do my dad's job, or any job? We have seen 11 year old's become surgeons so in that I do see your point but I think it is invalid.

On the note of university, again those with a degree very rarely are working on minimum wage and thus your point is invalid there too, there is a great advantage with going to university as it does add a great amount to your personality, skills base and how employable you are.
