You smoke - I choke

Zander Percival Hertfordshire

'If you put a kid in the car with second hand cigarette smoke, you are basically killing them.'

My campaign

I want to have smoking banned in cars that carry children under the age of 16. Some countries already ban smoking in cars but in the U.K. we don’t. It’s unfair to children who have no voice or choice about inhaling second-hand smoke.

My Campaign highlights

- Being featured in the Battlefront TV series on Tuesday 2nd December at 11.30am

- Working with branding agency, Dave, on a logo and animation for my campaign

- Putting on a publicity stunt involving a car, a smoke machine and a plastic doll

- Getting a meeting with my local MP, Mike Penning to talk about my campaign

- Meeting mentor, Alex Ross and stunt agency, Cunning

How can you help?

- Put up my poster in your school

- Pass on my viral animation to your friends and family – especially if they smoke!

- Show your support by putting a comment on my Battlefront or Bebo page or joining my Facebook group

- Join me on my next stunt – coming up soon!

I'm afraid I dont agree with your campaign at all. There have been all these new laws introduced in the last year or so about smoking.. it's getting silly, and actually banning smoking in cars I think is ridiculous. When im out with my friends, if one of us feels like a cigarette we wind the windows down a little and theres no problem (i also had asthma as a child). The responsibilty is with the parents, or whoever is in charge of the car to realise what a smoked out car is like for a child, and simply wind down a window - what we really don't need is more anti smoking laws, remember for most people tobacco is an addiction, not a choice made on a daily basis.

Thank you so much for this campaigne, im 12 years old and also suffer from asthma. A few years ago after a cub camp i was taken home in a very smoky car, that night i had an asthma attak and had to be put on a very scary nebuliser. thanks again and keep persivering

Hi Love the idea of this campaign. Keep up the good work, YOu are not only saving the lives of young people from passive smoking but also helping smokers quit for there children and people around them. Smoking is a vile habit Keep up the good work XX

Paul Dinsmore, if you looked carefully at the campaign whose wall you are commenting on, instead of being a negative 'busybody' you will see that this campaign isnt aimed at telling you to stop smoking! it is aimed at protecting people (i.e. young people) from possible dangers caused by passive smoking, when they have no choice in the matter. you should probably get your facts right before you start throwing stones!!!

I can't say I agree with your campaign. Although it was terrible what happened to you and yes parents shouldn't smoke around their kids, I feel that is another piece of legislation which criminalises the public, promotes nanny statism and is fundamentally unenforceable. As a smoker I contribute taxes to this country, I am well aware of the dangers, but I don't overeat nor do I drink in excess. Why do we stigmatise smokers when alcohol and overeating cost the NHS and society far more than smoking? And like most parents these days when I have kids if I still am smoking it will not be anywhere near my kids. I have the right to end my life like this if I want, and I am sick of interfering busybodies taking away freedoms that I have a right to as a citizen of the UK.

This is such a good campaign. I hate the smell of smoke and being inflicted with it as more often than not makes me feel physically sick. Your so brave and doing brilliant, I'm sure you will have a huge following on this! Keep going! xxx

i totally agree with you, i would really love one of your badges to wear to the in laws seeing as the constantly smoke all over me and my children, i think a badge would be the perfect weapon lol. what your doing is a great thing, well done and keep going x

liz baldwin, 02 December 2008 18:38

Hey i watched your campaign on c4 thismorning and i was so impressed.:) I can relate exactly to what you were sayin...my mum used to smoke in the car and every journey was a coughing/choking match. I had extemly bad asthma as a child which didn't help. Now when i see people smoking it disgusts me and i immediatly walk the other way to avoid breathing in their second hand smoke. I would love to do something to at least get the message across to people. I live in Scotland, so spreading the word here would help even more children escape the smoke! I wish smoking would be banned in the UK altogether but i supose things just need to be taken one step at a time. If you have any leaflets/postcards etc i would be more than happy to put them on cars, hand them out to people etc. Keep up the good work!!! :) Jen, 19 Ayrshire
