Stop the Slaughter of Dolphins in Taiji
Eleanor Broughton
Popularity: this is the 45th most popular campaignI recently heard about the documentary film 'The Cove' and was alarmed to find out that more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are brutally killed each year off the coast of Japan. In addition, Japanese consumers are being sold dolphin meat, containing dangerously high levels of mercury, often labeled as whale meat.
I ask that you urge the Japanese government to revoke permits that allow Japan's Fisheries Agency to continue this heinous, dangerous and illegal practice.
(My personal opinion after watching 'The Cove') I think the slaughter of so many dolphins and porpoises for no ethical reason is disgusting. This is purely a gross misconduct of Japanese economics, but not even the fault of the collective majority of the Japanese nation who remain ignorant to the dangers of mercury poisoning from consuming the cheap and incorrectly labelled meat. It's trully worrying when a country's government no longer care for their nations health and wellbeing, and are cruel enough to risk future generations all for money. I think it is also highly disturbing that dolphin trainers from sealife parks all around the world are totally oblivious to the damage they do by funding this epidemic. Trainers are supposedly meant to love and respect these intelligent creatures, IT IS ALL LIES as captive dolphins are often on medication to treat ulcers caused by stress which in turn is caused by their captivity.
