Fight for Sustainable Fishing
Katie Gavin
Popularity: this is the 19th most popular campaignThe increasing global demand for seafood paired with modern fishing techniques and technologies have meant that we are now faced with a huge problem of unsustainable levels of fish. Many seas and rivers and many species of fish are already fully exploited or over-exploited. The fishing levels or 'total-allowable catches' (TACs) that are set by scientists are increased dramatically by politicians and then increased further by the fishing industry. It is a problem that is happening right now and changes need to be made to stop and reverse the effects of industrial fishing. Awareness needs to be raised as it is the consumers and the buyers that can make the difference; if the demand isn't there then our oceans will not continue to be destroyed.
