I'm heartbroken to announce that Jessica Wales, who featured in my Battlefront Programme, died peacefully on Tuesday 12th Jan, with her family by her side.
She was just 20 years old and had received her double lung transplant a couple of weeks earlier. Unfortunately, the wait had been too long and her body wasn't strong enough to cope. She had been awake following the operation and was aware that she had her transplant; she got her dream that she had been waiting for 4 ½ years but sadly, she will not be able to live it through due to major post transplant complications.
Her death won't be in vain. During her time waiting, Jess inspired thousands of people up and down the country through her campaigning, incredible attitude and passion for life. She touched everyone's lives that she came into contact with.
We became close during and after the filming of Battlefront and I will always treasure the memories I have of her. I am so proud to be able to call Jess my friend. We had made plans together for when she got her call, the things we would do...
Jess' wait was just too long and I intend to make her proud by continuing my work with the Battlefront campaign and the charity Live Life Then Give Life. We were both advocates of the charity, trying to change the world of Organ Donation, so 3 people a day don't needlessly die like Jess.
Of course my thoughts are with her family and everyone who knew her at this sad time.
"The stars that shine the brightest burn the fastest".
Rest in peace beautiful lady... you can breathe easy now. Thinking of you every day & Love you always, Holly x
PS – I promise to be less of a kidney person now Jess x

My campaign will raise awareness of organ donation and encourage more people to think, talk and do something about it. By educating people, and clearing up common misconceptions about Organ Donation, I hope to get more people to sign up to the Organ Donor Register and potentially save and transform the lives of others like myself.
In 2005 I went on the kidney transplant waiting list after a sudden illness caused kidney failure. I was kept alive by a dialysis machine which I was attached to 3 times each week, and was put on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. For many others on the waiting list dialysis isn’t an option – for them an organ transplant is a matter of life and death. Waiting was tough! However I have been lucky and recently received my gift of life, but for others this is not always the case as there is still a major shortage of Organ Donors in the UK.
I am determined to keep campaigning and fighting for the people still waiting on the transplant list.

Ive just watched ur battlefront campaign (repeated at 4.15 this morning) - im wainting on a major operation on my knee & have trouble sleeping with the pain - hense watching tv @ 4.15am. Ur a huge inspiration, hospitals terrify me and the comment u said about "being dead" in refrence to somebodys reason not to donate has made me think. not only think but I have just signed up to donate. people need to start not only thinking about others when they die - but talk about it also. I hope ur in good health and continue to be an inspiration to others. Good luck and well done, love michelle x

I now have a beautiful wife & 3 wonderful kids all whom would never have seen the light of day if it hadn't been for some familys unselfish generiousity which has given ...me a whole new life ... keep up the good work and dont hesitate to contact me if there's anything you need help with.

Holly watched your programme this morning and was very impressed with your enthusiasm. I would say that by watching the programme I have now registered under the NHS Donor Registration and will speak to my family to encourage them to do the same thing. Best wishes for your future health.

Hi Holly, I have been a doner through my boots card but had been meaning to check that I could stay on the regester because I had been told that if you are air cabin crew that u cant donate THIS IS NOT TRUE. I called them to confirm and regested my full details again. I have also put the link on my FB page. Keep up the good work holly xx

Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments, its great to hear people enjoyed the programme and have actually signed up because of it! Jess who appeared in the programme is still clinging on to life waiting for the double lung transplant that she so desperately needs! I am still campaigning for her and for everyone like her waiting on the transplant list, I want her and them to receive the second chance that I have been given x

Fantastic campaign Holly, just stumbled on the programme on Channel 4 whilst waiting for my baby to fall asleep. I am signing up now and will get my patner to do the same when he gets home. Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration to all.

Well Done Holly, I've just signed up to the organ donor register. You are incredibly inspirational! x
Alexandra, 22 October 2009 04:59
Hi Holly, I hope you're doing well, I've just watched your Battlefront campaigne on channel 4 and while I was watching I signed the online Donor Organ Register. I've also added a link on my Face Book page and will be urging all my friends and relatives to sign up too. You've done a brilliant job! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I've fancied being a donor for a while, but never got round to it - how silly is that - it only took 2 minutes of my life and I might give years to other people. xxxxxxxx
Michelle Foggo, 22 October 2009 04:58
I signed up to the organ doner list when I was just 13. I always say why keep the organs you're given when you no longer need them but someone else does? Your campain has bought a tear to my eye and you should be extreamly proud of yourself :) Well done!
Cat Ward, 22 October 2009 04:57
