Random Acts of Kindness

Tom Robbins Somerset

'Giving an umbrella to someone, carrying their shopping, giving away flowers to strangers... It can make your day.'

My campaign

My campaign is to encourage and undertake random acts of kindness. It involves going around helping people whenever I can. I'm doing this because I feel more people should be helpful in more situations. People should be more positive and happier. It's always nice to make somebody smile.

Campaign highlights:

- Meeting so many kind and interesting people: Kate Nash, the Kindness Offensive, Louise Burfitt-Dons and many more
- Persuading over 1000 football fans to hug at MK Dons Stadium
- Putting on my Kindival at Chelsea Art School on 25th April – it was a huge festival of kindness and a huge success!
- Getting so many positive comments from YOU.

How you can help:

- Send me your ideas of more random acts of kindness I can do
- Be kind!
- JOIN MY FACEBOOK GROUP!

Hi Tom, enjoyed your talk at Future Democracy '09 last week. My blog post including your panel session talk is live here: http://tinyurl.com/ykb4brz All the best with the campaign, Mel Poluck.

Hey Tom, you should check out the website "omegle"- I've found it's a great way to promote kindness, and you can even do so anonymously! Best of luck mate x

Check out The Kindness Offensive's story so far, revolving around their talk given at Kindival;http://www.leapanywhere.com/media/show/1516

Thank you for the previous tip on checking out www.leapanywhere.com it's very helpful and means anyone in the uk or abroad can join in with something in their local area although I haven't found something in my area I am continuing to search through events very near me. Thank you Tom for starting up such a great campaign I think this is a really good campaign to bring people closer to one another, it definantly helps the younger people to be a bit more observant, i've always believed in doing something nice not for rewards themselves but to make someone's day that bit better. I love the fact that you have gone that step further and encouraged other people to be kind too. Keep up the good work :D

I love many of the Battlefront campaigns - yours stands out as something that can affect and help anyone anywhere whatever their circumstances or the area they live in - unless in a very isolated place ! There are two things that unite all humans - desire to be happy and free from suffering. We are quick to barge past someone, judge, name call, moan etc, but a small thoughtful act can save someone's day and, if they are going through a rough time, can save their life or turn around their outlook. As humans, we are not yet applying all the fantastic wisedom and knowledge in the world - this is one of them - ending wars, street crime and various unhappy experiences begins with just being kind. Good on Ya Tom ! Good luck and keep going ! and yes, value for money - if we are having a bad time, feeling down ,lost etc- just reaching out and helping another and not just sinking into more negativity can turn our own lives around ! So efficient ! fabulous ! all the best ! I have my own campaign in mind on similar lines - but I may not qualify for Battlefront ......will be reading more as it is so positive and shows what good things people are thinking and working on.....I'll give you a quote for free ( I coined it- x ) 'You don't have to have money to be a secret millionaire' everyone has the ability to make someone's day. Every success ....you can't fail...it's a beautiful campaign.X

Heyy. I really like your campaign and the message you are getting across! For the last few years Ive been going to a Christian Camp called 'Soul Survivor' and every year they always talk about Random Acts of Kindness, which can be Big or Small. Whilst I was there, me and a few friends wanted to do our own Random Act of Kindness and it was simply handing out Cookies :) It was amazing how the little things can make someone smile. Good luck with your campaign! You have my support. (:

I have a philosophy that guides my life...."We are put on this earth, not to see through each other....but to see each other through". Love this site and feel renewed to keep on.

Wow! Just read your article in The Source... I have been brought up to be kind to others, I'm the sort of person who will stop someone if they've dropped something and tell them, I have helped people of the older generation get their walking frames up kerbs, I believe that if someone has lost their smile then you should give them one of yours! However you don't always find that the help is recieved as intended... I was beginning to get fed up with the scary looks and tuts that some people give, as though they really can't understand why you helped or expect you want something in return... Until I read your article... I am re-newed in my determination to continue along the path of kindness!! So for that I thank you!

Love your random acts of kindness! Was wondering if you could help me an act of kindness right now. I'm trying to gather online votes to win $10,000 which will be used to build a technology lab for >300 primary school kids in Tanzania. Only 6 votes separates this from happening and voting goes through 5/31 11:59:59 PM CST. I could use your help in voting and spreading the word to get other people to vote. Voting is free and only takes a minute or two (for us), read this post to read some of the challenges of getting online in Tanzania: http://bit.ly/tzvotes The post also contains the link to the voting page, which is http://bit.ly/ideablob Thanks so much in advance for any help you can provide, I can assure you >300 kids in Tanzania will be grateful for your effort.
