'Homophobia seems to be a uniquely accepted form of prejudice'
In a social education class it seemed to be acceptable to make homophobic comments when racism would have resulted in disciplinary action from the teacher. It seems that homophobia is a uniquely accepted form of prejudice. We want to do something to change this attitude. We also want to provide support for victims of homophobia.

EMMET, that's brilliant- that really is our message. Just as a person's race needn't restrict their support for civil rights, and just as one needn't be female to support feminism, we ardently take the view that you don't need to be LGBT to support LGBT rights. Thanks for your support!

Hi Steph. Thanks for getting in touch - your experience seems to be particularly bad and we're glad you chose to get away from such a bad environment. You should find that as you get older and your social (and educational) environments get older too that people are much more accepting and if there is a problem it is easier to deal with and is taken seriously. People are so unaware of homophobia, they think it's dead and gone. They couldn't be more wrong, because those people that say it's gone are the ones who have prejudices themselves. A frenemy of mine outed me at school two years ago and I got bombarded with the most vulgar questions, insults, I even got seriously physically attacked- the whole side of my face was bruised for weeks and I had cracked ribs. The teachers ignored me and my friends also suffered the consequences. This kind of thing happened at least six times during one period, at least- and it isn't like my school is a strict catholic school, it's got people from everywhere. The teachers ignored this severe bullying and they ignored me as well, I was reduced to tears one day in class after a girl insulted, propositioned me for 'experimentation', tried to 'touch' me, and hit me. The teacher said nothing, and nothing was said about it. I've just left school and I'm 16, and I don't regret it. I couldn't have lived with that any longer.

i'm straight but not homophobic i Hate homophobics why cant they let people live their life just the way they want. I can moan about this all day so i am going to dtop now before i get really grumpy

Hey Rachael and David. im 14 and im bisexual. i have told a few friends and they are fine with it. i want to tell my sister, because she is bisexual too, but then she might think i am copying her so i dont know what to do. do you think im bisexual because she is? is it okayy to be if she is?

Hi Racheal and David, I still haven't officially come out, but I have made a huge leap forward; I have told my best friend, a girl who has been there for me through thick and thin. She has been brilliant and so supportive. She is trying to help me grow the confidence to tell everyone, but it still really terrifies me. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it. Lets hope homophobia will not be something I have to tackle when I fully come out, I have to help enough friends who find it a problem... Thankyou again, and good luck with the campaign, I am behind you all the way!
