Jocelyn Bailey
Jocelyn is all about change: she eats it for breakfast.
In her job at Policy Connect, Jocelyn does research on shedloads of topics for Parliament, working out how to change policies by bringing fresh and awesome ideas to the attention of the big-cheeses who make the big decisions. As such, when it comes to making a difference, Jocelyn is an excellent person to have onside.
Luckily for Battlefront, Jocelyn is fully on-board for BF3 and will be working her magic to help Shereece craft her Let’s Talk About Sex campaign for maximum impact and thusly make it go stratospheric.
Stephen Budd
Stephen Budd knows all about changing the world through entertainment.
We met Stephen last year when he kindly offered up the services of his company, Stephen Budd Management, to produce the winner of our Battlefront Anthem competition.
Stephen started out as a roadie for bands like Motorhead (ask your dad) before going into artist management. Now, as one of the best in the business, Stephen Budd Management has worked with the likes of Beyonce, Jay-Z, Arctic Monkeys and the late Amy Winehouse.
SB is also one of the big cheeses at the Channelfly Group, which owns loads of music venues and magazines, so he knows a thing or two about events and communication.
We’re very excited to have Stephen on-board as an expert this year and look forward to seeing him help our Battlefronters turn their campaigns into hits!
Kajal Odedra
Kajal Odera is all about giving young people a voice and making sure that voice is heard louder and clearer than the front row at a JLS concert.
As Campaigns Officer for the UK Youth Parliament, Kajal is one of the most skilled people in the country at getting the young folks heard on issues they care passionately about. She has worked with young people in their missions to improve sex and relationships education in schools, demand cheaper transport fares and get the voting age lowered to 16.
Kajal’s no newcomer to Battlefront either. In 2008, she helped James Greenhalgh massively in his fight to scrap tuition fees.
If you mess with young people, you mess with Kajal. And messing with Kajal is like messing with the best: which you should never do of course, cos the best don’t mess.
Nick Ede
When it comes to PR, brands and style, Nick Ede is basically the World Heavyweight Champion.
Not only does Nick run one of Battlefront’s favourite PR agencies, Edencancan, but he also regularly shares his expertise on the telly. Fans of Project Catwalk, Diet On the Dancefloor, Catwalk 24 and OK!TV may well have seen Mr Ede doing his thing as a judge and guest expert.
And when he’s not on TV or running an award-winning agency, Nick raises mega-bucks for charity and also has his own jewellery range called Lost And Found, loved by the likes of Sarah Harding, Konnie Huq and Kelly Osbourne.
If that’s not enough, Nick won Communicator Of The Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards!
So if this year’s Battlefronters are keen to make themselves heard, some help from Nick will be almost as valuable as his shiny jewels.
Esther Foreman
Esther Foreman eats campaigns for breakfast with a side-order of world-changing.
As a committed human rights and social justice campaigner, Esther has tackled numerous issues head-on, bringing about positive change for a number of causes. After graduating from University (where she studied Anthropology), Esther helped out several few charities before working for a company focused on getting essential medicine out to developing countries.
After that, Esther went to work for Shelter, the homeless and bad-housing charity, where she talked the Government into building extra social housing, before moving to Help the Aged, where she ran the Just Equal Treatment campaign to make age discrimination illegal (which she achieved). Now, she works as Policy and Campaigns Manager at Mencap, where she works on issues effecting people with learning difficulties.
When she’s not campaigning, Esther likes to keep bees. Here’s to her putting a sting into our Battlefronters’ campaigns! (sorry)
Nikki Brooker
Nikki came to our attention at last year’s Battlefront Debate where she let rip at the panel, ranting about how the older generation have left us a world in a messy state. She also raised whoops and applause after calling for the scrapping of the minimum voting age, replacing instead with a maximum one!
When she’s not whipping up a storm at debates, Nikki is a youth consultant and is studying an MA in Anthropology, Community and Youth Work at Goldsmiths University.
Prior to that, NB has worked as a consultant for UK Youth Parliament, did lots of hard-debating and had her hands in several successful campaigns.
With all Nikki’s experience and feistiness, we’re looking forward to seeing her team up with this year’s Battlefronters. Go Nikki go!
Mark Littlewood
When it comes to making yourself heard, Mark Littlewood is something of a demon.
He’s currently the big cheese of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) and has previously been chief press spokesman for the Lib Dems and Pro Euro Conservative party, Campaigns Director at Liberty, chief spokesperson at NO21D and Head of Media for the Lib Dems, whom he resigned from following a disagreement about proportional representation.
So he knows campaigns, he knows politics, he knows how to communicate and he’s not afraid of a fight. Sounds like our kinda guy!
Alison Goldsworthy
If you’re looking to bring about change, Alison Goldsworthy is your lady.
As the Director of Wales’s first campaigns consultancy, Alison gives advice on the daily to organisations wanting to make a difference. Prior to that, she advised on a political tip, briefing clients on political campaigns – particularly Liberal Democrat ones which she’s something of an expert on having previously worked for the Lib Dems as their Policy Officer.
In 2009, Alison headed up an organ donation campaign in Wales, which attracted huge amounts of attention and press interest for a cause that features in this year’s Battlefront. She’s also worked at the helm of campaigns tackling issues such as disability and poverty.
In other words, Alison is awesome. We’re excited to have her on-board!
Reuben Turner
Reuben Turner is exceptionally good at doing good and a master of campaigning.
As a creative whirlwind at a company called The Good Agency (a top marketing communications agency who work with charities such as Save The Children and nice ethical companies), Reuben is involved in coming up with ideas for campaigns and getting stuck into the job of spreading the message far and wide. In his illustrious career thus far, he has focused much of his magic on campaigning on behalf of our non-human friends.
Among Reuben’s big achievements are Squash the Quash – a campaign that successfully stopped a law being passed that would allow even smaller cages for battery farmed chickens; RSPB’s Letter to the Future – a conservation campaign that has notched-up 200,000 petition signatures; and on-going campaigning to ban the use of animals in circuses.
Prior to working at The Good Agency, Reuben was Creative Director at Proximity London, where he came up with ingenious ideas for several major charities, including the British Red Cross and Royal National Lifeboat Institute. Looks like our Battlefront creatures are in safe hands!
Kathryn Llewellyn
Kathryn Llewellyn is a campaigning and fundraising mastermind and international development guru.
As a world-changer, Kathryn’s achievements thus far include: increasing Action for Southern Africa’s income by £1.1 million and clean water charity, Pump Aid’s, income by £2 million, both within two years! She has also advised several other companies in developing countries, such as Malawi Mangoes, about taking their businesses to the next level.
Through her campaigning, Kathryn has also made close ties with the likes of Coca-Cola, Live Earth, Bodyform, The Times and UN agencies.
Kathryn has also founded a women and children rights charity in Swaziland (for whom she raised £1 million!) and is currently developing a women’s magazine for southern Africa, written “by women, for women, for change.” She was also the winner of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation’s Conflict Resolution award in 2007. So with Kathryn’s backing, our Battlefronters can expect their campaigns to explode like a mango in a microwave!
Alec Braun
Alec Braun has organised more high-profile events than P Diddy’s party planner, so our lucky Battlefronters under his wing can expect their campaign gatherings to make an impact.
Working for several major companies over recent years, Alec has put together events, tours and campaigns for the likes of Beyonce, the Mayor of London, Vauxhall Corsa, Westfield Shopping Centre and Africa’s largest telecoms brand. Last year, Alec also helped our very own Alex Rose (Class of 08) put together his ‘Education is the Key’ event – part of his STOP: Gun and Knife Crime campaign – at London super-club Ministry of Sound. The event attracted hundreds of people, famous performers and members of the press.
Hopefully Alec can help some of this year’s Battlefronters pull off some equally successful bashes.
Jason Goodman
Jason Goodman’s chosen specialist subject is marketing the socks off a campaign, which should be music to the ears of this year’s Battlefronters.
As the CEO (aka ‘Big Cheese’) at a creative agency called Albion, Jason has worked marketing magic for the likes of eBay, Skype, BlackBerry, Innocent Drinks and Air New Zealand – so he knows a thing or two about launching successful campaigns.
Jason started his first marketing business in 1996 after graduating from Cambridge (yep, he’s a clever boy) and went on to win awards and big props for his work on campaigns for clients such as Pot Noodle (slurp).
As well as being humungously creative, Jason is also about nurturing young talent, and has worked with a number of Europe’s rising entrepreneurs. Let’s hope he brings out the genius in our Battlefronters!
