Wrong to be different?

Wrong to be different?

Popularity

This is the most popular campaign

Is it really wrong to be different? Is it wrong to have tattoos, piercings, Outrageous hairstyles? In my eyes No. Yet in the eyes of many others, Yes. Why single people out for having these? Why make it harder for them to get jobs? Why shout things at these people in the street? and why ban these people from certain places? People need to stop judging others because they are "different" and start looking deeper inside at their qualities and abilities. It's time we stood up for our right, after all we are no different to anybody else in this world. Join me in standing up for out view, Standing up for our rights and getting the word out there. It's time to be heard and not just seen! It's time for a difference to be made not us made the different! Let the campaign begin!

i have tattoos and work as a chef i have to wear long sleeve chef jackets to hide my tattoos. When you are in a kitchen the temperature can reach 70-80 degrees and have neirly fainted from heat exhaustion a couple of times. if there is no contact with customers (and this is the same for all jobs) you should be able to wear short sleeves

How long have you worked in this job for? Lot of people i know have tried getting into working with kids in school ect, but have massively failed due to it not being school rules and regulations.

Nicola Warren, 01 March 2009 20:23

Hi I am a 37 year old mum of 3(16 13 and 7). I didnt start dying my hair and getting my piercings and tattoos until I had had 2 of my kids and divorced my first husband. I now 10 years later have 5 large tats and 7 piercings and a good job in a local school (with the kids not a cleaner) my hair is often a different colour on Monday morning to what it was on the previous Friday and no one has a problem with it although I do wear studs in my facial peircings for work as the kids I work with have special needs and can sometimes be aggressive. The kids love my tongue bar as I change the colour of the balls daily.

Everyone is unique. Tattoo's, piercings and hairstyles are a way of expressing personality, creativity and above all they show strength. Of course it's RIGHT to be different! If we were all the same what a boring World we would live in! Some people are just jealous they do not share the confidence people like us have to BE different! I have 6 piercings and 3 tattoos and they're a part of me and express my personality. I'm not a sheep, I don't follow the herd, I'm proud to be different.

this is what i wrought on facebook. GOODLUCK AND I WILL SUPPORT ALL THE WAY. i have been really bullied in my life time and i have lost loads of friends to discrimniation and i was almost a victim. and i said to myself "do you know what its time to fight back for what myself and others belive in" and that is what this campaigne is about. all you got to do is be yourself and help others going through discrimnation prejudice or racism and show them that they are not alone there is a whole world out there and the world will be ours because we make our world and we can destroy it but we will do it together

TACEY , 28 February 2009 21:16

It's ok :P

Nicola Warren, 28 February 2009 19:39

Sorry about that, i didn't see the website or even this website before reading. Thought it was a conversation more than a campaign. In the bigger picture I'm glad to see there are people who care about the world enough to do things like this. Good on you.

Jozie Mackay, 28 February 2009 19:35

Also there is the simple act that Canadian laws on these things are alot lighter than the uk ones.

Nicola Warren, 28 February 2009 19:29

Well Jozie. To start if you looked on the actual Wrong to be different site then you would know the EXACT reason of this group as a lot more is explained in depth, or the same if you read the facebook group. Also the fact if you explored this site you would know that there is already a campaign under way on the "abused female image" as you put it. The key is to Research before juding.

Nicola Warren, 28 February 2009 19:22

Tattoos, piercings, and outrageous hairstyles? That doesn't sound very different anymore. People with tattoos and piercings are working in day-cares now, the only place this prejudice seems to come up is in schools. Sure society may view you differently. They make view you as someone who's still growing up, who has a reaching need for attention, or to disassociate yourself with your group or family. It's a psychological belief, though not a scientifically proven fact mind you. Why would we be so worried about chosen differences when we're still battling given ones. Race, Gender, and Phisical and Mental abilities. What about obesity, and the abused female image? That seems like a bit more worthy a cause.

Jozie Mackay, 28 February 2009 19:17

Thank you Dan :D see you soon xx

Nicola Warren, 28 February 2009 19:01
