The Literary Den Campaign

The Literary Den Campaign

Paul Carroll

This is the 2nd most popular campaign

How many teachers have tried to tell you over the years that you should read more books? How many people have told you that creative writing is something you'd be really good at? And like your really going to listen to them? Sitting down to read a book, or to write a poem or a short story sounds way too much like homework! We want to get young people reading and writing again: why did it become so 'uncool' to read and write? We want to get everyone reading and writing again, let creativity flow and prove that your teachers can be right about something (they have to be right sometimes!) Our campaign aims include setting up an online mentoring system to help young writers with their work and to improve their writing skills and to encourage young people in their writing! Check out our website at!

Coming soon - a downloadable guide to bookshops! I know what you might be thinking, "We already know about bookshops." Well, 20 million UK citizens aren't reading, so we hope to combat one of the reasons that a survey suggested was making them not enter bookshops. Then we'll tackle the other part - they think books are "anti-social." Read the full article here:

Heys guys and gals, thanks for the support! The Campaign has produced its first "How to Write" document. This is the first in a series of documents, detailing interviews of members of The Literary Den and Tome City (another writers group). Document 1 is about ideas and planning. It's entirely free, and available through the online forum (also free!). When our tech-guy is back, they will (hopefully) be available from the main website, thus removing the need to log in to retrieve them. I'll keep you updated on any further changes! Thanks again!

10% extra support - because I gave up maths in favour of English Lit AND Lang... so I can no longer add up! :P I'm begging everyone to vote for us! xD

Amy, 15 March 2009 19:41

Ah, glad you both found the page =] Amy, thank you for the 10% extra support. I hope everyone gives it, because then it might add up to something. Lisa, I know writers don't think it's 'uncool.' It's just worth pointing out that everyone else does. Do you know what I hear when teachers announce it's time to do the composition section of the Leaving Cert. Sometimes, 28 groans all at once, with myself and my twin both saying "yes!" People just don't appreciate writing like they used to. Friends will say, "Oh, that's interesting," and most will wait for you to stop talking about it so they can change the subject. That's where the Den comes in to change it. Whoops, I really am just blathering on now. Thanks again for the support! =]

Et moi! However, I don't think writing is 'uncool'. Then again, I wouldn't. ;)

Lisa, 15 March 2009 17:00

As a member of th Literary Den, I am, of course, 110% behind this campaign! And I love the logo more and more every time I see it!! :D

Float your boat? Do you like the cut of Paul Carroll's jib? Then do something about it. Voting, preferably, not a small dance. The 10 campaigns with the most votes end up before the wise and bewigged Battlefront judges, who’ll pick the lucky campaign to appear on the next Battlefront TV series.

So get behind the issues that matter most to you. You have until midday 30 March to cast your votes.
