Ella was the winner of our 12th Campaigner competition. Her campaign was all about getting disabled and non disabled people to integrate more, as she saw the effects that segregation can have on young people.
Ella saw how people would judge her sister, Nancy, who is a normal teenager: witty, outgoing, occasionally moody, and who happens to also be disabled. Let’s Talk Disability aimed to break down the barriers between disabled and non disabled young people; and encourage people to get to know the person rather than the disability.
Ella’s campaign may have started later than the others, but she achieved equally amazing things. Among the thousands of supporters of Let’s Talk Disability were McFly, with whom she recorded a campaign-themed duet.
At the end of Battlefront 2, Ella organised LTD Fest – a free one-day festival at London’s Proud Gallery, hosted by T4’s Jameela Jamil. The event saw young disabled and non-disabled festival-goers and performers coming together for a totally inclusive afternoon of music, comedy, beatbox battles and lots more.
