When we think we’re safe online, are we really? Carney’s campaign is all about keeping web users safe and highlighting the effects of cyber-bullying.
He wanted people to understand the damage it does to victims and how it ruins lives. He also wanted to make sure victims know they have a place to turn.
Carney’s campaign attracted lots of support and attention, with celebs such as T4 presenter Jameela Jamil getting behind him.
Towards the end of Battlefront 2, Carney launched Swindon’s first every Cyber-Safety Week, which went down a storm. They visited Swindon schools, taking over PHSE lessons to talk about cyber-bullying and give advice on staying safe on sites such as MSN, Facebook and Twitter. Carney also spoke to schoolkids about how being cyber-bullied himself led him to depression and self-harm, and showed a powerful thought-provoking video to really get the point across.
Carney was also selected by Beatbullying as Swindon’s first ever Cyber Mentor. He had his training at Google HQ.
