'Road traffic accidents are the biggest cause of death amongst 15-19 year olds, globally'

Road traffic accidents are a major killer of young people, and unless we do something about it, the statistics are only going to get worse. I personally know people who’ve been killed in road traffic accidents. The worst thing is that there are easy steps that can be taken to save lives.

I’ve come up with 10 action points to make British streets safer. I want to present these to the Department for Transport, and get them taken seriously. I want to create a fresh and more accessible Green Cross Code, with a focus on the dangers of using MP3s and mobile phones when you are crossing the road.

I am passionate about taking steps to ensure our loved ones are safe.

I think most people only require a little education about road safety to start making conscious decisions which could save their lives.

Hi Manpreet, I stumbled upon out page and was intrigued about your campaign. I was just also wondering about this quote you have as your tag line "'Road traffic accidents are the biggest cause of death amongst 15-19 year olds, globally'" you don’t seem to have supplied a citeable reference for where you got your information from. Good luck with your campaign.

Shyam Patel, 26 October 2008 19:16

Manpreet Darroch, 25 October 2008 16:08

I personally believe that this potentially cruel world needs more people like you, who can speak up and make a difference. This is obviously a serious matter which needs to be dealt with promptly, so that young adults and even adults do not watse their precious life on a matter which can be made safer by deploying a few simple changes. I wish the best of luck with your campaign and every success!! Chak dhey Phattey!

Hassan, 24 October 2008 23:25

First of all, well done Mamps for doing this. I certainly think this makes a great campaign. Road accidents are indeed the biggest killers of young people as you said, and we dont need any more. So I will be backing your effort.

Nishant Mittal, 24 October 2008 21:28

Congrats on creating awareness on this issue, it is a major problem and needs to be addressed. Continue the good work Manpreet!!. P

Prad, 24 October 2008 21:22

I've seen you in the local news. This is a good campaign and I hope you keep it goin. I think this is definitely an issue in this area. J

James Lowhill, 06 October 2008 17:46

The only way to stop road accidents is to get rid of cars. My family was devistated when my brother was killed in a car accident. I dont blame the driver or the fact he had been drinking, people just dont realise how deadly a speeding ton of metal can be. it seems crazy to me that guns are illigal because they are dangerous when anyone can get in a car and run down anyone else.

Matt, 11 September 2008 23:05

The initiative you have shown so far has been exceptional and I am sure your campaign will be a big success.. we are all very proud of you. Road safety is extremely important and it doesn't get the attention it needs especially with the younger generations. I look forward to seeing the progress. Keep up the good work.

Dal Darroch, 10 September 2008 23:59

Hey, this is a great campaign and really important. I'm looking forward to see what ideas you come up with to challenge road users.

I think this is a really important campaign as loads of young people have been run over around my area. Most of it was their own fault but a lot was because of unsafe drivers. Keep it up!

Manpreet, When we discussed your campaign the other day I could see your enthusiasm, commitment, and concern regarding this issue. I too share your concerns, and truly believe that the answer lies in education- both formal & informal. I wish you all the best with this worthwhile campaign. Keep me updated with all that's going on.

Clare Pitkin, 22 August 2008 12:25

Thanks for all your encouraging messages guys, i'm really excited about getting my campaign ideas out in the public. Do come back to this site very very soon as first of all I have a video coming to this page to set the context for my campaign. Also, Channel4 have teamed up with Bebo to create some exclusive content for the site which will follow our campaigns as they progress. It's all exciting stuff and I can't wait to share it with you all.

Manpreet Darroch, 19 August 2008 23:14

Good luck with this campaign. Sounds good. It's always going to work better if young people change stuff themselves in ways that make sense to them.

Harry Wade, 18 August 2008 11:22

Nice one Mamps, I really like the idea of a revamped green cross code. Looking forward to seeing more as the project progresses. Best of luck mate! Jake.

Jake Manning, 18 August 2008 10:39

I think your way of tackling this issue is great - by changing government guidelines, a lasting reminder would be made for everyone in our new technological era.

Mark Howson, 17 August 2008 18:05

This is a great campaign idea Manpreet. I'd be really interested to hear more about your action points. As well as education we do need some really big changes in the way cities and streets are designed to put pedestrians first...

Tim Davies, 17 August 2008 12:51

Mamps, I remember when you first told me about this stuff. Good on you son oh and love the mug shot. Lets get goin!

Martin L, 16 August 2008 21:53

I hope lives can be saved on our roads. People can be ignorant at times. I hope this goes well.

Tabby Pilsner, 16 August 2008 20:15

This sounds like a brilliant campaign, I personally haven’t seen or heard any real hard hitting warning's on road safety in the recent months. It’s good to see a young person taking the initiative to make a difference to help his fellow peers, like you say it’s a major killer of young people these days. Good Luck with the campaign I am sure it will go far!

Sharn Samra, 16 August 2008 15:45

This is a brilliant campaign. I've actually seen a real crash just because some young people weren't paying attention! Go for it!

Jack Philips, 16 August 2008 12:40

This message stands for everyone young and old, good luck with your campaign!
